A NOLA Day Off

Ahh New Orleans, there is nothing better than exploring this beautiful city on a lazy Sunday. The famous phrase, “Laissez le Bon Temps Rouler” translates to “Let the Good Times Roll” but sometimes you just want to be a little Laissez Faire and chill out. For the city dwellers, the swamp lovers, and the suburban stayers, here is our ideal day off in New Orleans.

Morning

Some people only require coffee on busy days, but the taste of a fresh cup of joe never fails to hit the spot! Head over to Mojo Coffee House or French Truck for some incredible coffee, roasted in New Orleans. We highly recommend the NOLA Iced Coffee at both locations for a rich dark roast thanks to the chicory and a touch of sweetness. If you’re in the French Quarter, grab beignets and a Cafe au Lait at Cafe du Monde for a beautiful breakfast and people watching.

If you want a more quiet start to your day, we love walking around City Park or Audubon Park to check out the stunning Spanish Moss and Oak Trees. Grab a book and a blanket for a laid-back start to your day.

For an upbeat start, why not grab brunch with some friends and family! A few of our favorites are Saturday/Sunday Brunch at Jack Rose for some of the BEST chicken and waffles and an espresso martini. Make sure to book in advance as it fills up fast :)

Afternoon

New Orleans weather can be a bit finicky, so make sure you have options on your day off. If you want to spend the entire day outside relaxing, you can go to Ace Hotel and access their rooftop pool for the afternoon. There are a myriad of pools in NOLA you can visit during the day besides the Ace, we recommend NOPSI and the Country Club!

If you want a combo of indoor/outdoor options, talk a walk down Magazine Street for shopping and eating. The 8 mile stretch goes from Uptown New Orleans all the way to the French Quarter with boutiques, restaurants, and stores nearly the entire length. If you’re a thrifter, Buffalo Exchange, Funky Monkey, and Uptown Costume Depot are some super fun spots to check out second-hand finds.

Afternoon showers in New Orleans are NO JOKE! Don’t let the rain ruin your day though, check out the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the Contemporary Arts Center, or the world famous World War Two museum. New Orleans has some incredible exhibits featuring local and worldwide art so don’t forget about them! Although we are known for Bourbon St and beads, the intellectual gems here are otherworldly.

Evening

To cap off the night, why not grab a happy hour dinner before settling in back home. Some of our favorites are Sidecar Patio and Seaworthy for oysters and discounts on drinks. There’s nothing better than hanging out with some friends to catch up over a cocktail and raw oysters :) If you’re feeling a little more upscale, Paladar 511 is a fantastic dinner option for a special treat.

For those who are wiped from the day, we love supporting local restaurants by ordering takeout. Luke and Asuka Sushi are both amazing options you can find on the Postmates app to deliver right to your home for a quiet night in.

If you don’t want to stop the evening just yet, head over to Hot Tin for drinks with a view! Our pro tip: head over right around 7:30 and go to the back patio to see the sun set over the New Orleans skyline. Our curated cocktails and stunning view are the perfect nightcap for an easy-going day off.

The beauty of Southern living is being able to stop and smell the magnolias every once in a while :) The stress of everyday life can be overwhelming, so don’t forget to indulge in some self-care and relaxation. Our NOLA day off is simply one way to spend a weekend when you want a little R&R without the guilt of a Netflix binge (of course we love those too). We hope to see you enjoying a Jack Rose brunch or a cocktail at Hot Tin on those relaxing days!
